Student Voice

Student Voice on High Schoolin ns. oppilas neuvosto. Sinne valitaan tietty määrä oppilaita jokaiselta luokka-tasolta. Student Voice järjestää erilaisia tapahtumia ja tekee aloitteita, joilla voidaan parantaa opiskelijoiden oloja ja koulun ympäristöä. Koska tulijoita Student Voiceen on enemmän kuin paikkoja, joutuvat oppilaat kirjoittamaan itsestään "suosituskirjeen". Ja suosituskirjeethän ovat yleensä täynnä itsekehua amerikkalaiseen tapaan.
Jennie, Siiri ja Anoosha päättivät kuitenkin käyttää toisenlaista tapaa eli ohessa kirje:


Hi,

Jennie, Siiri and I would love to be a part of student voice, and though
our reasons maybe a little selfish, from the way we see it, this
selfishness actually extends beyond us. In fact, it would be beneficial to
the whole high school that we remain selfish in this aspect. This is our
senior year and we intend to make it the best school year yet. We feel
that as members of student voice, we would be doing our part towards
making our final year memorable. By doing so, this year would be enjoyable
for not just seniors, but the juniors as well. Our personal investment in
this matter demonstrates how much we’re willing to do for student voice.

However, we do not think we have any special “one in a million”
qualities to offer student voice and thus believe that those who praise
themselves in an application in the hopes of being selected have clearly
not done enough TOK. We’re giving you the absolute truth through
self-awareness. We’re not promising that we can make a huge difference
that no one else is capable of. We’re above average in particular
things, but we don’t have Einstein capacity. Jennie is above average in
creating things. Siiri is above average in planning and organizing
things. I’m above average in putting things into words.

We highly doubt you will see any other application like this one and that
is the reason why we believe that the three of us could potentially be a
valuable part of Student Voice. This email has hopefully shown out-of-the box
thinking, teamwork, honesty and our incentive to commit. We hope that
those are things you value in members of the Student Voice because those
are the only things that we have to offer. Fortunately or unfortunately,
depending on your perspective.
